These quotes provoked Navalny to make a number of mocking comments.
In his opinion, the “defector” Valeev must be removed from Open Russia:
“Let them remove it, or then let them take Tina Kandelaki and the “corps of observers””, - suggested Navalny.
“Intellectual Timur Valeev will work with adequate representatives. And we'll live. Khodorkovsky now has Valeev. No worse than Lesya", - ex-member of the Constitutional Court of the opposition Olga Romanova sarcastically commented on the news.
Another member of Navalny’s team, Oleg Kozlovsky, reacted more broadly:
“Timur, are you aware that many of those who are now discussing your appointment were engaged in observation, were members of election commissions and/or were nominated for elections long before you paid attention to this topic? Do you even know who you are going to work with? While with your first steps you are greatly complicating your task, turning the observation movement against yourself (I hope you have at least heard about its existence). I, of course, wish the Open Elections project success, but for this I strongly advise you, at a minimum, to put aside arrogance and study, study, study.”
And liberal journalist Oleg Kozyrev reproached Khodorkovsky himself:
“I’m glad that Timur Valeev realized a lot. But I think it’s a mistake that Khodorkovsky surrounds himself with people without convictions.”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
